The Cataracts – Andover

I’ve been a bit busy lately so have not been on many photography adventures until this past weekend. I finally had a few hours to revisit one of my favorite local waterfall locations. Andover is about 60 miles away from my home base so it’s not too far to travel at the last minute. The day started out sunny, filtered by high, thin clouds. Thought it would make excellent lighting for water photos. Unfortunately when I arrived on location, most of the clouds had burned off and the sun was beating down washing all the good light and creating too many highlights under the dense foliage. Luckily the Cataracts have a few waterfalls along its length and the largest and most picturesque faces North and is located in a deep ravine. Below are the three best of the day. The first is a single shot. The next two are HDR versions of multiple bracketed shots, then I used Lightroom 4 and developed using Trey’s HDR preset “Flatten then Jackit” as a starting point. Trey Ratcliff from Stuck In Customs has a great package of HDR presets for Lightroom 4 and 5 at a very reasonable price. Check out his site! Leave a comment to let me know which perspective you enjoy most.
